supermicro’s enterprise customers who need multiple x86-based server systems running on a single motherboard are able to do so by using the industry-standard iopci driver and AMD processors and motherboard designs. They exploit this capability by tuning a single motherboard to perform either single or redundant functions. The following diagram provides an overview of the process.

For those customers who are seeking a flexible solution that can use multiple ͞broadcasted ͟ processors, a more customized supermicro ͜platform (shown in the diagram below) is available. This solution enables our customers to add additional CPUs to their systems as needed, without having to purchase additional boxes.

The following diagram illustrates how supermicro’s customers can take advantage of the flexibility they receive using supermicro ͜platforms by using two AMD processors, each with its own memory controller, memory bus and I/O configuration. This example shows a first server design that would be used in an entry-level machine learning solution that would run a single software instance on a single motherboard.

Other applications may require more processing power than one motherboard can handle, and an additional box may be added to support such needs. For example, this second server design can run multiple applications that are distributed across two boxes and two software instances. The data could be streamed between the two machines by an external network switch or router.
